  Mayor's call to develop packages for tourists

Sylhet : Badaruddin Ahmed Kamran, Mayor, Sylhet City Corporation, has called upon the members of the travel trade to develop packages highlighting the historical and religious places of Sylhet to attract more tourists to the holy city.

Large number of people travel to Sylhet to visit the mazars of Hazrat Shahjalal (R), Shah Paran (R), places of historical and ecological interest but these are not well organised, he said and suggested developing packages so these visits could be better organised.

Mayor Kamran said this while inaugurating the first international tourism fair_ Sylhet Travel Mart-2010 in Sylhet at United Centre, Dhopa Dighir Par of the city on July 8.

Md. Golam Rabbani, Divisi-onal Commissioner of Sylhet, speaking as the special guest, assured all-out cooperation of the Sylhet administration to ensure a tourism friendly atmosphere in the region.

Kazi Wahidul Alam, Chairman of the Organising Committee, STM-2010, said people of Sylhet had been feeling the need for such an international fair and we are happy to organise it for the first time.

Thanking Airlines Club of Sylhet and its President for the support in organising Sylhet Travel Mart-2010, he held out the assurance of regularly organising the Mart in the coming years.

Khandakar Shiper Ahmed, President, Airlines Club of Sylhet, said the travel trade has developed in the region along with other places of the country. Introduction of Tourist Police in Sylhet will help increase the number of tourists visiting Sylhet.

Ziaul Karim, Head of Marketing, Eastern Bank Limited and Syed Abdul Muqtadir, Senior Advisor, United Airways also spoke on the occasion, among others.

The three-day tourism fair was organised by the premier tourism fortnightly of the country The Bangladesh Monitor in association with Airlines Club of Sylhet. Eastern Bank Limited and United Airways Bangladesh Limited played host as the Premium Partners of the fair.

Twenty-one organisations from home and abroad took part in the fair which include airlines, tour operators, hotels, motels, guest houses, resorts, tourism establishments, tourism real estate companies, banks and financial institutions.
