Dhaka : Low cost carrier SpiceJet has suspended the Guwahati-Dhaka direct flight service in less than three months since it was launched on July.

The reason behind the suspension is not having the desired passenger number.

Due to poor business of the service, the airline first reduced the frequency from daily to twice a week and now has suspended the operations entirely.

Previously, Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam termed the launch of the direct services between the two destinations as historic.

He further mentioned, the Centre was looking to connect all the capitals of ASEAN countries, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal with Guwahati, while inaugurating the maiden flight.

Hence, this suspension may affect the possibility of trade and cultural ties between India and Bangladesh.
