BAPA, IFALPA honour pilots for successfully handling Biman flight hijack.

Dhaka : Bangladesh Airlines' Pilots Association (BAPA) organised BAPA Night 2019 on October 16 at Dhaka Club Ltd where they honoured Capt Golam Shafi and First Officer Muntasir Mahbub for successfully handling Biman Chattogram flight hijack attempt on February 25 ensuring the safety of all passengers.
Capt Ben Mansumitchai, Deputy President of IFALPA handed over crests to the two brave pilots on the occasion.
Late Capt Asghar Rizvi and Abu Salek were also remembered in honour for professionally handling the hijack attempt of Biman's Dhaka-Jashore flight on July 25, 1978. Capt Mahbubur Rahman, President of BAPA and Capt Mansumitchai jointly handed over crests to their spouse and daughter respectively.
Air Marshal (Retd) Enamul Bari, Chairman, Biman Board of Directors, Md Mokabbir Hossain, MD and CEO, Biman, Capt Ishtiaque Hossain, Executive Vice President, IFALPA, Jeroen Kruse, Chairperson, IFALPA SEC Committee, Jo Schoenmaker, Vice Chairperson, IFALPA SEC Committee and Arnaud DuBedat, Senior Technical Officer, IFAPLA also attended the event.
"Two groups of Bangladeshi pilots successfully tackled hijack attempts in two different eras. God forbid, if such an unfortunate event is to take place again, I am confident the pilots of this country will be able to successfully handle it," said Capt Ben Mansumitchai, Deputy President of IFALPA.
Air Marshal (Retd) Enamul Bari mentioned that Biman, as the national and a secured airline, needs to keep pace with the international standard of aviation security. "With time, there will be new challenges and we are ready to face every one of them," he added.
BAPA Night 2019 was held in conjunction with IFALPA Security Committee Meeting, organised by BAPA, held on October 15-17.
"It was a great challenge to organise the Security Meeting in Bangladesh. On November 4-7, we will be having IFALPA Asia Pacific Regional Meeting here as well. It is promising to be even bigger. 50 aviation security experts from the region have already signed up to participate in the event," said Capt Ishtiaque Hossain, Executive Vice President, IFALPA.
BAPA also honoured the retired pilots while welcoming the new ones and handed over token of appreciation to the special guests.
The evening also witnessed music performances by the country's only pilots' band No Tabs, followed by a grand dinner.
