Foreign Minister Momen says at Sylhet Chamber reception

We've taken economic diplomacy to build a developed country

Dhaka : "There is no alternative to economic development for building "Sonar Bangla" (Golden Bangla-desh) by 2041. I have taken economic diplomacy after the honourable Prime Minister made me the Foreign Minister. I seek everyone's continuous support so that I can honour the trust the Prime Minister has put in me," said Dr AK Momen.

The Foreign Minister was speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry at its office on January 15. This was the first reception programme for Dr AK Momen.

Dr AK Momen was elected MP from Sylhet-1 constituency.

Khandaker Shiper Ahmed, President, Sylhet Chamber presided while Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Mayor, Sylhet City Corporation spoke at the programme.

Dr AK Momen, said, "By 2021, we want to make Bangladesh a middle-income country, improve all indices by 2030 and Bangabandhu's Sonar Bangladesh by 2041.

The Foreign Minister said, "It is not possible to reach our goals without economic development. We have many programmes ahead of us, including hundredth birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation in 2020 and golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence in 2021."

Ariful Haque Chowdhury, greeting the new Foreign Minister said, "The Minister knows all about our expectations. We will jointly try to take Sylhet forward to establish it as an ideal model and a city of peace."

Khandaker Shipar Ahmed congratulated the Foreign Minister and said, "We, on behalf of Sylhet's businessmen, are grateful that you have come to the reception first after reaching Sylhet. Following your lead, the businessmen will collaborate with the government to build a prosperous country."

High officials including Chairmen, commissioners and secretaries of many government departments and organisations attended the event.
