London Heathrow reports busiest day ever

LONDON: London Heathrow airport experienced its busiest day ever on July 29, welcoming almost 262,000 passengers in just 24 hours.

Overall, July also reached unprecedented peaks, with over a quarter of a million passengers travelling through the airport on 19 different days in the month. In total, over 7.8 million passengers travelled through Heathrow in July, up 3.7 per cent.

The airport’s already popular North American routes saw significant growth of 8.1%, a total of 1.8 million passengers driven by larger, fuller aircraft.

Passenger numbers for Asia-Pacific climbed by 4.2 per cent following new services from Hainan Airlines, Tianjin Airlines and Beijing Capital Airlines, connecting the UK to Changsha and Xi'an and Qingdao. So far this year, Heathrow has welcomed 4 new routes to Chinese destinations.

A total of 140,000 metric tonnes of cargo travelled through Heathrow in July, with the emerging markets - China, Turkey and Brazil - seeing the fastest cargo growth across the month.
