Srinagar: The tourism department of Jammu and Kashmir, besides targeting India itself, will focus on attracting foreign tourists from Bangladesh, from where the footfall has witnessed a rise in the recent past.
Tasaduq Jeelani, Director Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir, said this in a meeting with tour operators, houseboat owners and hoteliers here on August 16.
Jeelani said the tourist inflow from countries such as Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore had increased over the past few years and the department would make every possible attempt to further increase the arrivals from these emerging markets.
“It is encouraging that the footfall of foreign tourists to Kashmir and Ladakh has increased. We will visit these countries and project J&K as one of the best and safest tourist destinations and convince the travellers there to visit our state,” he added.
The tourism department also announced that an India-wide promotional campaign will be launched to attract more tourists to the state.
He said they were planning to participate in travel shows at Surat, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad and Kolkata to tap the domestic market.
Jeelani said during the travel trade fairs and road shows, the department would also rope in the media to promote state tourism.
Jeelani said the department was also planning to organise a grand “Kashmir Festival” in which mediapersons of the regional print and electronic media houses from different states would be invited and made them aware of the local tourism products.
