First Hajj flight of Biman departs today

Dhaka: The first Hajj flight of this year departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today at 06:58 am as the BG-3001 flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines took off for Jeddah carrying 417 Bangladeshi pilgrims.

Md Mahbub Ali, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry and Alhaj Advocate Sheikh Md Abdullah, State Minister for Religious Affairs were present during the inauguration of the Hajj flight. Muhammad Enamul Bari, Chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Air Vice Marshal Md Mafidur Rahman, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh were also present on the occasion, among others.

Also, today, the second Hajj flight of Biman BG-3101 took off with 417 Hajj pilgrims at 11:15 am while the third Hajj flight BG-3201 departed from Dhaka carrying the same number of Hajj pilgrims at 03:15 pm. Two more Biman Hajj flights, one being dedicated BG-3301 and another being the scheduled flight BG-0035 departed today from Dhaka for Jeddah at 7:15 pm and 8:15 pm respectively.

Immigration operations of Jeddah airport were supposed to take place at Dhaka for some flights this year. However, due to some network difficulties, it was not possible to get it done at Dhaka for the first and second flight. The global digital difficulties are expected to be solved soon so that immigration operations can commence at Dhaka as usual.

Around 1,27,198 pilgrims from Bangladesh are set to perform hajj this year. Among which, Biman will carry 63,599 passengers, about half of the number of total hajj pilgrims.

The rest of the pilgrims will be flown by Saudi Airlines, the national carrier of Saudi Arabia which will start its Hajj flights on July 6.
