Speakers suggest making Pohela Boishakh Festival a tourism product

Dhaka: The Bangladesh Monitor organised an open discussion programme on Pohela Boishakh preparations at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel today, March 18. Representatives from over twenty organisations, including hotel and restaurants,fashion houses, make over saloons took part in the programme.
In his introductory speech Editor of The Bangladesh Monitor Kazi Wahidul Alam said, “ We have taken the initiative to draw attention of all concerned to potential of the colorful Pohela Boishakh celebration to attract foreign tourists. ”
Speakers suggested a concerted efforts from stake holders of different sectors for making tourism product out of the Bangla new year celebration, which may attract foreign tourists as well. According to them this kind of idea has already been adopted by other countries to attract tourists from foreign countries. Pohela Boishakh celebrate now has all required elements to become a tourism product. Paricipants made brief presentations on how they are planning to celebrating Bangla New Year and what are they offering for their clients this year. Hotels and restaurants are mainly offering night stay packages, traditional lunch and dinners, besides organising carnivals and fairs, following the old Bangla tradition. Fashion houses are coming up with the dresses with Bangla tradition and motif, while make over saloons will be offering packages , keeping in mind the hot and humid weather, which generally prevails during this period of the year.
The Bangladesh Monitor will bring out a special supplement on the programme along with their upcoming April 1 issue.
