Dhaka: Biman Bangladesh Airlines earned BDT 272 crore profit in the last fiscal year after incurring loss in 2017-18.
Md Mahbub Ali, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism made the announcement on July 31 at a press conference held at the Secretariat.
During the last fiscal year, Biman earned BDT 5,791 crore and made expenditure of BDT 5,519 crore, resulting in the profit that stood at BDT 272 crore, the State Minister added.
According to Biman, the airlines made profit of BDT276 crore in 2014-15 FY while BDT 236 crore in 2015-16 FY and BDT 48 crore in 2016-17 FY.
It incurred loss of BDT 46 crore in 2009-10 FY while BDT 224 crore in 2010-11 FY, BDT 594 crore in 2011-12 FY, BDT 192 crore in 2012-13 FY and BDT 199 in 2013-14 FY.
M Mohibul Haque, Secretary for Civil Aviation and Tourism and Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, Chairman, Biman Bangladesh Airlines were also present on the occasion.
The State Minister also informed that they have increased all types of supports including necessary equipment, staff recruitment and monitoring, in a bid to ensure departure of flights in due time.
Biman receives 3rd Dreamliner
Earlier, on July 25, Biman Bangladesh Airlines welcomed the third factory fresh Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to its fleet.
The new aircraft named “Gangchil” equipped with state-of-the-art technology is the 15th aircraft in the national carrier’s fleet. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the third Dreamliner on August 7.
Gangchil has 271 seats comprising 24 business class and 247 economy class seats. The business class seats can be flattened to 180 degrees straight. The passengers can receive modern facilities including internet and mobile phone calling.
