Biman’s maiden flight on Dhaka-Medina route takes off

Dhaka: Biman Bangladesh Airlines commenced direct flights from Dhaka to the holy city of Medina today.

M Mahbub Ali, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism inaugurated the Dhaka-Medina flight BG 37 by cutting a ribbon at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today in the capital at 1pm.

Speaking on the occasion, the State Minister expressed hopes of operating Dhaka-New York flights from next year. "We are also discussing about launching flights on Dhaka-Toronto route," he said.

The maiden flight to Medina departed Dhaka at 1:15pm today carrying 254 passengers on board. The flight is scheduled to reach Medina at 5pm today.

The return flight BG 38 will arrive in Dhaka with 107 passengers on board at 4:25am on October 29.

The national flag carrier will operate on the Dhaka-Medina route three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Flight operations on the Chittagong-Medina route once a week are also set to begin later this year, according to Biman.

Md Mohibul Haque, Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism and Air Marshal (retd) Muhammad Enamul Bari, Chairman of the Biman Board of Directors were also present on the occasion, among others.
