Dhaka: Air travel from Bangladesh to various countries in the world except SAARC region is going to be costlier, as per proposal in the national budget 2017-18.
The budget has proposed tax hike on air ticket for travel in countries in Asia except SAARC and other parts of the world.
According to the proposal, air travellers from Bangladesh will be required to pay Excise duty of Taka 2,000 instead of existing Taka 1000 to travel different Asian countries excluding eight countries in the SAARC region—Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The amount of excise duty will go up to Taka 3000 instead of existing Taka 1500 for travel to countries in Europe, America and other parts of the world.
This proposed hike in excise duty will be part of the fare. So, air fare from Bangladesh is going to be up.
