Colombo Airport to get LKR 15 billion terminal upgrade

Dhaka: Sri Lanka's aviation sector is set for major infrastructure development, with plans underway to modernize the first passenger terminal of Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport at a cost of approximately LKR 15 billion over the next two years, according to the country's Ports and Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku.
Addressing the passing-out parade of 100 newly recruited aviation security officers at the airport recently, the deputy minister said several historic development initiatives are currently underway across the country's aviation sector.
The modernization of the airport's first passenger terminal is part of broader efforts to enhance the island nation's aviation infrastructure and improve passenger services.
Meanwhile, construction work on the second passenger terminal is expected to resume by the end of this year, underscoring the government's commitment to expanding airport capacity and strengthening the country's position as a regional aviation hub.
Bandaranaike International Airport would remain a center of extensive development activity in the coming years as these major infrastructure projects progress, Kodituwakku added.
The planned investments form part of wider efforts to modernize Sri Lanka's aviation sector and support the country's long-term economic and tourism development objectives.
